Back in 2016 and 2017, we headed down to the Somme in the Pas de Calais, for part memorial/part educational reasons. September there is a nice time to visit. The relentless flatness of the place belies the fact that this was a huge and bloody area of war back in 2016.This image was taken near a landmark called Le Grand Mine, a huge crater, one of the few remaining true landmarks of WW1. One for lovers of landscapes and history.
